Add “previous page” to your WordPress theme

If you use some WordPress theme that doesn’t have “previous entries”, “old entries” or “previous page” in the footer of your blog then there is a really easy way to tweak this and add this functionality.

I use great Rhianna theme on my blog I love it but I found that this missing feature isn’t user friendly. What you need it to edit your index.php file from your theme and add few lines near the end of the file.

< ?php previous_posts_link('Next Entries →') ?>

Just add previous lines before this line:
< ?php get_sidebar(); ?>

So that end of your index.php looks like this:

NOTICE:
Please note that because of modsecurity apache security plugin on this blog I have some restrictions, so in order for this code to work you need to delete spaces between < and ? in lines that have ?php in them.

Firefox “block reported attack sites” privacy?

Have you tested new Firefox 3.5? It has a new feature built-in that should protect users from bad or hacked web sites. If you go to Preferences you will see option called “block reported attack sites”. It looks like this feature is giving all your web surfing info to Google!

One senior expert told me that this new functionality is a real privacy issue because in order for this function to work when you click on a link Firefox sends than link to Google and asks if this site is suspicious or not. That way Google knows what you are surfing.

I googled for it but couldn’t find any info regarding this on Google or Mozilla sites, if you have some links or some insight on how this feature works please share it.

I’m really interested if Firefox has made such a blunder and has given Google this surfing information (which should be private) or not.

UPDATE:
I found some additional info regarding this issue. Firefox Phishing and Malware Protection page has lots of info on this subject and also does the Google page.

From info I have gathered it looks likeFirefox as a client only downloads blacklists and whitelists from Google with suspicious links so no privacy info is leaked to Google. Right?

After some more reading I see that there are some cookies sent from Firefox to Google… can somebody make sense of all of this and say should we be concerned regarding our privacy and this feature or not?

Piratebay je jako zanimljiv site :) No još su zanimljivija stranica pravnih prijetnji i njihovih odgovora na te prijetnje.

Torrenfreak je i dalje najbolji izvod za praćenje vijesti u torrent svijetu pa tako i za vijesti vezane za ovo suđenje. Neka suđenja su zanimljivija od trilera, ovo je jedno od njih… svaki dan neki vrlo zanimljivi prevrati – toplo preporučam :)

My Mugshot on WordPress blog

I have used mugshot service for some time now and I really like it. If you haven’t used it before I highly recommend you sign up and install mugshot client. So far I know this is the only linux user specific social network service and it is made by Red Hat. There is also a windows client but it is more tailored to linux desktop users.

So I wanted to spice up my blog a bit. WordPress has sidebar in which you can add different add ons. Mugshot people have made “mugshot mini badges” that you can put on your facebook, wordpress and other blogs.

You need to go to your WordPress administration page and under Manage / Files edit Sidebar file. Choose the appropriate place and just copy/paste the code from mugshot badges page.

Postao sam Ambassador :)

Prije par dana postao sam ambasador Feodora projekta za hrvatsku. Kako dugo koristim Fedoru a i pridonosim na razne načine ovo mi se činilo zanimljivo. Pogledao sam ciljeve koje imaju Fedora ambasadori pa sam vidio da to mogu raditi bez problema. Začudilo me kako nema niti jednog Fedora ambasadora u hrvatskoj, tj. ja sam prvi. Ako ima još ljudi koji sudjeluju na neki način u Fedora projektu svakako vas pozivam da i vi postanete Fedora ambasador.

How to embedd parts of podcasts in your blog?

I listen to lot of podcasts and in lots of episodes there are some great parts of the show that I would like to share with my friends.
This appears to be a bit tricky thing to do.

To do this you need:

cut out the part of the show that you like
find a site to upload your piece (the most tricky part)
embedd the podcast to your blog

There are lots of different tools for linux, I mainly use audacity or mp3cut, and this is not the hard part. The hardest part of this endeavor is finding a service to host your files and make them available in streaming flash format and also for download.

I tried a few of the bestknow services like; pownce, houndbite, zshare, and a few more, but only two services are usable enough for this task. Pownce has a limit of 10MB (clips I used were 12-25MB in size), houndbite has a limit of 8MB so file size limit was the excluding factor for these services.

Only two services which I found usable were archive.org and twango.

Twango has the best upload interface which tells you how much you have uploaded and how much you still need to wait until the whole file is uploaded, so cudos to them. Also twango has an embedded player code for your blog ready as soon as you upload a file, unlike archive.org. Still I like archive.org more only because it has the feeling of openness like opensource and you need to hack it a bit to embedd an audio to your blog :), plus it has a nicer looking player on your blog.
