You are right, but they are’t laser focused like mint. Ubuntu has server edition and now unity for netbooks.

It’s unfair to say that Ubuntu is not focused on desktop users. The me menu, the messaging integration, Ubuntu One…. I mean, c’mon.

What you can say is that Mint does some extra work on desktop usage with incredible value. The welcome screen, for one, is something that Ubuntu should implement ASAP.

Please at least first try out Mint to see how they implemented their features, mintMenu is not package manager.

Some of that stuff is neat, and some of it is just terribly, terribly, wrong. Any time your conclusion is “the start menu needs bookmarks”, you made a mistake somewhere along the way.

What features in Linux Mint? I take it that you are enamored with their menu. KDE’s menu does pretty much everything it does with the exception of being aware of uninstalled software. I don’t think I want my menu to try to double as a package management app but maybe that is just me.
